how do you say “refreshed” in Hebrew?

להתרענן

If you’re having trouble seeing the vowels, enlarge the display on your monitor.

Some of the readers of this blog live in Raanana – רַעֲנָנָה. I spent a year living there as well. That year, when I was 14 years old, I decided that I would make Israel my home – if not immediately, one day. The word רעננה means fresh, when speaking about something feminine such as a city. (Why is the Hebrew word for city feminine? I’ve got no clue. If you do, hit the comments form below and tell me.)

עַכְשָׁיו אֲנִי עָיֵּף (ahkh-SHAHV ah-NEE ah-YEHF) – right now, I’m tired

…וַאֲנִי רוֹצֶה לְהִתְרַעֲנֵן (vah-ah-NEE roh-TSEH le-heet-rah-ah-NEHN) – …and I want to get refreshed.

The word להתרענן means
to get refreshed.

(Ringing in Ulpan La-Inyan)

Additionally, לְרַעֲנֵן (le-rah-ah-NEHN) means to refresh. For instance, you can refresh your Hebrew conversational skills (or build them from scratch) at Ulpan La-Inyan. We’ve got a whole bunch of classes starting on Sunday in both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, at the AACI. Check us out!

In the meantime, listen and repeat…
