The Hebrew word for chain (Biblical as well as Modern) is שַׁרְשֶׁרֶת listen and repeat. Say it out loud a few times.
 
As a chain is a string of connected loops (לוּלָאוֹת listen and repeat), the word שרשרת itself conveys a sense of pieces being connected to one another – with two instances of שׁר joined in the word – in a flexible manner with the soothing, flowing sh sound.
