how to say “united” in Hebrew

מְאוּחָד

If you’ve had even the slightest exposure to Hebrew – in Israel or in a synagogue anywhere in the world – you’ve probably heard the word אחד
one.

אחד also functions as a root for verbs, such as the התפעל verb להתאחד
to unite (together) and the פיעל verb לאחד
to unite (two things).

לאחד has a passive version – united. The word for that is מאוחד
when referring to something grammatically masculine, and מאוחדת
for something feminine – such as a city.

For example:

ירושלים מאוחדת מאז מלחמת ששת הימים.

Jerusalem has been united since the Six Day War.

מאוחדת is also the name of one of Israel’s four HMO’s.

Watch today’s video to learn how to use this passive form of לאחד.
