Suppose your friends are all going out to see a movie… but you’ve got something better to do. You’d .probably wish them a good time, and then go about your business

Here’s how to do so in Hebrew: בליוי נעים![audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/בילוי-נעים-#.m4a” /].

בילוי[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/בילוי-נעים-#.m4a” /] is the noun form (gerund) of the word לבלות[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/בילוי-נעים-#.m4a” /], which means to spend time. לבלות is an active-intensive פיעל verb.

It’s possible לבלות שעה אצל הרופא[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/בילוי-נעים-#.m4a” /] – to spend an hour at the doctor’s, and it’s possible לבלות בחוף הים[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/בילוי-נעים-#.m4a” /] – to spend time at the beach.

But if you use the word לבלות by itself, you’re talking about having a good time. Hence, בילוי also means going out and having a good time.
