Admittedly, צידה לדרך[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/צידה-לדרך-#.m4a” /] isn’t an accurate translation of a doggy bag, but the ideas are similar: צידה לדרך is food (literally, provisions) for the way.

For example:

At the end of visits at her house, my grandmother would give me food for the way.

צידה[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/צידה-לדרך-#.m4a” /], coming from the word ציד[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/צידה-לדרך-#.m4a” /], means that which has been hunted – though the food in the doggy bag could be meat just as well as a chocolate bar.

לדרך[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/צידה-לדרך-#.m4a” /] means for the way, where דרך[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/צידה-לדרך-#.m4a” /] means way or path.
