I wrote about “blindfold”
something that covers the eyes
and I wrote that “eye covering” is a phrase
with an “of” relationship
There are two nouns
there is “cover”, and there is “eyes”
which are both things – “cover” is a thing and “eyes” are a thing
or a few things, actually
and we put them together with
so to speak, “of” in the middle
covering of eyes
But in Hebrew we don’t need to put in the “of”
Because we can build an “of” expression
covering (of) eyes – blindfold
And how do we say it in the plural?
Not “covers of eyes”, but rather
כיסויי עיניים-blindfolds
like “synagogue”
it’s one thing
and how do you say
houses
But “synagogue” (house of gathering) in the plural
is not “houses gathering”
or “houses OF gathering” – we say
synagogues
Now, that’s in the masculine
because כיסוי-cover is a masculine noun
And בית-house is a masculine noun
But let’s say
we are talking about a mask
mask of the face
or “mask of face”
How would we say it in an “of” expression?
The letter ה becomes a ת
and it’s מסכת פנים-face mask
With ות- at the end
face masks
at the end of the first word
or at the end (of) the first word
