The word of the day is “a promise”, as opposed
to “security”, for example, “security cameras”
What’s the difference between הבטחה and אבטחה?
First of all, you may have noticed that there’s
a ה at the start of הבטחה, and an א at the start
of אבטחה. So why, what’s the story?
אבטחה (security) is a bit different from הבטחה (promise)
And in order to emphasize the difference, we
use an Aramaic form
we take from the Aramaic language, thus
creating a new word in Hebrew
Other examples of this phenomenon
are “illusion” and “deception” – השליה (deception) is
from להשלות – to deceive, to cause someone
to experience an illusion, and “to diagnose” as opposed
to “to distinguish”, “distinction” as opposed
to “diagnosing” or “diagnosis”
