Today’s word, or more correctly, today’s expression
is “chances are” (“most likely”), for example

between the word סיכוי (chance) and סיכון (risk)
because they sound very very similar
and they have a relatively similar meaning as well
because סיכון means risk, this is very similar
in meaning to chance
Risk, chance
But they are not related, they are unrelated
words, because סיכוי comes
apparently from Aramaic, and its parallel
in Hebrew starts with a ש and not a ס
In Aramaic, סיכוי (chance) is connected to seeing
something from afar, a chance is what might
be in the future. On the other hand, risk
is from סכנה – danger
