This time, for “shower”, I did not write

The word מקלחת (shower) comes from the root
ק.ל.ח – this root does not appear in the Bible
It appears only later
in the Mishnaic period, some
eighteen hundred, maybe fifteen hundred
years – a relatively new word
There, in the Mishna, it says מי מקלחין
water that flows
Today we say מי קולחין
not מי מקלחין – when we say מי קולחין
we mean water that flows in the street
and goes to the sewer – and also water that is
inside the sewer
and the word מקלחין we use for
bathing/showering someone else
say, a parent bathing their child
What about bathing/showering ourselves?
That’s להתקלח – we take the word
in the פיעל verb structure, מקלח or לקלח
and turn it into a התפעל word
when we do something to ourselves
To shower (ourselves)
or, simply, to take (make) a shower
