how to say “to cry” in Hebrew

לִבְכּוֹת

Sometimes it’s appropriate just to cry.

The Hebrew word for to cry is לִבְכּוֹת
listen and repeat, an active-simple verb of the root ב.כ.ה (b.kh.h).

As the last letter of the root is a ה (h – learn to read Hebrew) – a weak letter – the end of the root changes from word to word.

For example:

הוּא בָּכָה כְּשֶׁהַכֶּלֶב שֶׁלּוֹ מֵת.
He cried when his dog died.

and

בָּכִיתִי בַּסֶּרֶט.
I cried during the movie.
