The Hebrew word for to forget is לשכוח[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/עזוב-2.m4a” /].

But to say to someone forget it, you’d use a different word: עזוב[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/עזוב-3.m4a” /] to a male, or עזבי[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/עזוב-4.m4a” /] (pronounced colloquially עזבי[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/עזוב-5.m4a” /]) to a female.

Take this dialogue for example:

[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/עזוב-6.m4a” /]אמא – יוני, תוציא את הזבל.

Mom – Yoni, take out the garbage.

[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/עזוב-7.m4a” /]יוני – מה? אני לא שומע, אמא.

Yoni (listening to music) – What? I can’t hear, Mom.

[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/עזוב-8.m4a” /]אמא – אמרתי, תוציא את הזבל!

Mom – I said, take out the garbage!

[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/עזוב-9.m4a” /]יוני – מה? תגידי עוד פעם, אני לא שומע.

Yoni – What? Say it again, I can’t hear.

Mom – Forget it, Dad will take out the garbage.

עזוב and עזבי are forms of the verb לעזוב[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/עזוב-11.m4a” /] – to leave, so that עזוב or עזבי mean something to the effect of, leave it alone.
