and it’s written וַיִּחַדּ
but there is an emphasis on
the letter ד
that in fact, we were supposed to say ויחדד
or va-ye-HADD
or something like that
now לבד – alone, there isn’t this emphasis
but probably this emphasis could have appeared
in other Semitic languages
like Arabic
there is an emphasis on this last letter
which indicates (should be שמעיד) a doubling
two letters, and not one
for example, if it was Arabic, they would say le-VADD
to emphasize the ד which is actually ד letters
