This entry should be useful for both the seafood eater and for the person trying to avoid it when searching for a restaurant in Israel.

The Hebrew term for seafood is פֵּירוֹת יָם ( listen and repeat) – literally, fruits of the sea, where פירות ( listen and repeatis the plural form of the word for fruit, פְּרִי ( listen and repeat).
This excellent Italian restaurant is on Emek Refaim in Jerusalem.

Kosher – no פירות ים served.

Why fruits of the sea? Because that’s what seafood is called in other languages such as French (fruits de mer), Italian (frutti di mare) and German (Meeresfrüchte).

An example:

חֲסִילוֹן (שְׁרִימְפְּס) וּתְמָנוּן הֵם דֻּגְמָאוֹת שֶׁל פֵּירוֹת יָם.
Shrimp and octopus are examples of seafood.
