A word that dots the Hebrew Bible in the most mysterious and esoteric of contexts – as well as mundane ones – is that which means voice or sound – קוֹל ( listen and repeat).

To speak out loud is לְדַבֵּר בְּקוֹל רָם ( listen and repeat– literally, to speak with a loud voice.

Giving a name to that 20th-century electrical invention that we call an amplifier or loudspeaker, or simply a speaker, the makers of Modern Hebrew devised a word: רַמְקוֹל
( listen and repeat).

For example:

אַתֶּם לֹא שׁוֹמְעִים אֶת הַמּוּזִיקָה כִּי הָרַמְקוֹל מְכֻבֶּה.
You (plural) don’t hear the music because the speaker is turned off.
