One thing I’ve been doing with the extra time on my hands is improving my Arabic, part of my hobby of learning languages.

The Hebrew word for hobby is תחביב[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/תחביב-#.m4a” /], as in:

[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/תחביב-#.m4a” /]כדי לנצל את הזמן, אפשר לפתח תחביב.

In order to make the most of (our) time, (we) can develop a hobby.

תחביב comes from the root ח.ב.ב[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/תחביב-#.m4a” /] meaning love or liking (hobbies are things we love to do), the same Semitic root as حبيبي[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/תחביב-#.m4a” /] – habibi, an Arabic word of endearment.
