how to say “a slice of orange” in Hebrew

פֶּלַח תַּפּוּז

An orange, in Hebrew, is תפוז
(one of my favorite fruits). This modern word combines תפוח
apple and זהב
gold, because an orange’s skin is “golden”.

The slice of a fruit such as an orange – really more a segment – is פלח
, as in:

היא לא תאכל את כל התפוז, רק כמה פלחים.

She won’t eat the whole orange, just a few slices.

This word פלח also gives us segmentation – פילוח
, as in:

תוכלו לשלוח לי פילוח של התוצאות של הקמפיין?

Could you guys send me a segmentation of the results of the campaign?

More about different kinds of slices in today’s video.
