I wrote about ילדים-kids
and in biblical times they were called in general
when they were talking about children in general
they would talk about the טף
But today we just say ילדים
Let’s say, that “this is a program meant for children”
and “the children’s channel on TV
But the word טף did not disappear
from the modern language
It appears in a special word
שמרטף-babysitter
Now, most people just say “babysitter”
but there are those who say שמרטף
which connects the words שומר or שומרת (guard)
and טף – that is, children
שמרטף is a babysitter
I’m not crazy about the word
it does not sound so nice to me
and maybe that’s why
most Israelis do not use it
They just say “babysitter”
but everyone with their own taste and
well, that’s all friends, see you later
