Hello dear friends
I’d love to make you a video
from Sacher Park in Jerusalem,
where today there are lots and lots of
barbecues, and everyone is barbecuing
and everybody is waving their flame fanners
so that their fire doesn’t go down
but I’m not doing this
because … I’ll tell you a secret
today isn’t really Independence Day for me
I record these videos in advance
Anyway – the words related to על האש-barbecue
are first and foremost על האש (literally “on the fire”), which is
because one cooks things on the fire
and the thing we use to cook things on the fire is
called מנגל – portable barbecue
Why is it called מנגל?
Because it comes from the Arabic – منقل (manqal)
which is something that is taken from place to place
like our barbecues that we take
from home or from the supermarket, bring them to the park, and (later) throw them away
or use them again
And נפנף – I already explained in the post, whoever read it
And whoever didn’t read it – נפנף is a thing we use to fan
the fire in it so that the fire stays lit and
continues to cook our delicious food
