derive from the name of the city of נצרת – Nazareth
now what about “Islam”?
Islam, in Arabic
its root is س ل م
and the corresponding root in Hebrew is ש.ל.מ
which is the root of שלום – peace
but it is also the root of שלמות – wholeness
and probably this is the connection
between “Islam” and “peace”
because the meaning of “Islam” is not “peace” per se
the meaning is כניעה – surrender
surrender to God
and apparently when one surrenders to
God, then there is a sense
of wholeness
something like that – maybe that’s the connection
between “peace” and “Islam”
