The word קדמי is an important
useful word, mainly in physical contexts
for example “the front seat” – as opposed to
“the back seat”
“the front row” at the cinema
at a theater, as opposed to “the middle row”
or “the back row”
On the other hand, when speaking about “the front line”
in a war for example, we speak of the חזית
not of (literally) “the front row” or “the front line”
Another usage for the word קדמי is
when speaking about an axle
of a car, because when we speak about an axle
we say בקאקס or בקאקסל
which in English is “back axle”
But in Hebrew it’s either back or front
and therefore, when we want to be more specific
and say “front axle”
we say “front back-ax”
