Hey dear friends
The word ביטוי-expression comes from the root
ב.ט.א, which we know is about
the tongue, about the lips, how
we express something verbally
So ביטוי is a saying – there are other words
in Hebrew, synonyms such as אמירה (saying)
ניב (expression), and פתגם – this one is specifically
an expression with significance, or with a moral
So today, with your permission, I will present to you
an expression that I use quite often
which is “you’ve grabbed too much – you grabbed nothing”
The literal meaning is that if I
grab too many things in my hand, then
everything falls, and so I actually haven’t grabbed anything
And the significance is that if I take
on myself too many things, then in the end
I won’t manage to do anything
Well, at least this is the significance that I
give to the expression
