how to say “craft” in Hebrew

מְלָאכָה
Hear this word pronounced

Cyclone in Australia, earthquake in New Zealand, genocide in Libya, rockets on בְּאֵר שֶׁבַע (beh-EHR SHEH-vah) – Beer Sheba

Here’s another song by Ehud Banai about what happens after the storm – that, as is human nature and for good reason, people go back about their business. But the ones who never forget are those who lost someone.

מְלָאכָה (meh-lah-KHAH) is craft. It’s the Jewish legal term for that which is prohibited on the Sabbath, a concept that appears in this week’s Torah portion. It’s used in Mishnaic Hebrew to mean the Modern-day equivalent of career.
