how to say “on the contrary” in Hebrew

אַדְרַבָּה
Hear this word pronounced

One way of saying on the contrary in Hebrew is לְהֶפֶך (leh-HEH-fekh) – literally, to the opposite.

A word that will make you sound really smart is אַדְרַבָּה (AHD-rah-bah). It comes from Babylonian Aramaic and is used mostly in academic circles… and in the בֵּית מִדְרָש (beit meed-RAHSH) – religious house of study, where it may have originated.

For example, אַדְרַבָּה! זֶה רַעְיוֹן מְצֻיָּן (AHD-rah-bah! zeh rah-YOHN meh-tsoo-YAHN) – Why not? It’s a great idea!

On my radio show tomorrow, I’ll be featuring a song called אדרבה. The song gives a great tip for getting along with people that one wouldn’t necessarily get along with.

Check out the show tomorrow between 12 and 1pm Israel time.
