how to say “to commemorate” in Hebrew
having trouble seeing the print?
A couple of months ago I did an entry on to mention – לְצַיֵּן (leh-tsah-YEN). Today I’m introducing another meaning.
You may know the Hebrew word for excellent – מְצֻיָּן (meh-tsoo-YAHN). That word is the passive version of an active-intensive פיעל (pee-EL) verb, to point out or to commemorate – לציין. Thus a more accurate translation of מצוין would be outstanding.
הַיּוֹם הָעַם הָאָמֶרִיקָנִי מְצַיֵּן אֶת הַהַתְקָפוֹת (hah-YOHM hah-AHM hah-ah-meh-ree-kah-NEE meh-tsah-YEN et hah-haht-kah-FOHT)…today the day the American people commemorate the attacks of 9-11 ten years ago, with the solidarity of the people of Israel and other peoples throughout free the world.
We stand strong.
I’ve seen his amazing art at Hechal Shlomo and even acquired a piece myself.
