how to say “noise” in Hebrew

רַעַשׁ

Idan Raichel, one of Israel’s top musicians, really knows how to put on a show. At his concert in Motza Illit last summer, he brought dozens of performers on stage so that the line לעשות קצת רעש
to make some noise – in this song, came alive with everyone expanding their bodies, lights flashing onstage, and sound effects that created a presence that the neighbors couldn’t ignore.

רעש
means noise, though in Biblical Hebrew it also refers to an earthquake (which makes plenty of noise).

To make noise is לעשות רעש
– or, more formally, להקים רעש
(literally, to raise noise).

Here’s רעש in context:

אני לא מצליח לישון עם כל הרעש!

I can’t manage to sleep with all the noise!
