كذاب (kazzaab) is the Arabic word meaning “liar”
because in Arabic, the root כ.ז.ב
or the root corresponding to (Hebrew’s) כ.ז.ב
is the main root
of this concept of a lie
In Hebrew, the root ש.ק.ר is the leading root
so we say שקרן-liar and not כזב
By the way, why do we say שקר וכזב for “a big fat lie”
and not שקר וכּזב? (with a k sound)
Because the letter Kaf comes after a vowel
and the rule in Hebrew, in grammar
is that when Kaf appears after a vowel
it’s softer
Not always, but most of the time –
unless there is an emphasis in the Kaf for a different reason
