Hello dear friends
I think the first time
I heard this phrase
in their deaths they commanded us to live
was when I was 14
I grew up in the United States
but when I was 14 we lived as a family
one year in Israel
and that year on Memorial Day
I came with my school to the military cemetery
and we stood there at attention during the siren
and heard shots in honor of some kind of military ceremony
and at that moment I realized what Israel is
that all of Jewish history is channeled
here in this moment, in Israel
and I decided that if we go back to the United States (as a family)
I want to come here one day
and build my home here
because I want to be a part of this great thing
that is the State of Israel
