All week we’ve been seeing verbs of the הפעיל form. But does the word הפעיל[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/להפעיל-#.m4a” /] itself mean anything? If so, what?

הפעיל is a form of the verb להפעיל[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/להפעיל-#.m4a” /] – to activate or to operate – also to turn something (electric) on. Its root is פ.ע.ל[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/להפעיל-#.m4a” /] meaning action.

For example:

Sarah, turn on the air conditioning.
