The word for team or staff is צוות[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/צוות-#.m4a” /], as in:
[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/צוות-#.m4a” /]אני מאוד גאה בצוות המורים שלנו.
I’m really proud of our teaching staff.
Note that although it has a ת ending, צוות is a masculine noun, so that a large staff is צוות גדול[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/צוות-#.m4a” /].
צוות comes from the Aramaic צוותא[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/צוות-#.m4a” /] – a group doing something together. צוות thus refers to people working together to achieve a common goal. It is not used to refer to a sports team – that’s קבוצה[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/צוות-#.m4a” /] (group) or נבחרת[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/צוות-#.m4a” /] (chosen ones for the team).
