מצנח
The Biblical (and Modern) Hebrew word לִצְנוֹחַ (leets-NOH-ahkh) means to drop quickly. The root of this active-simple פָּעַל verb is צ.נ.ח (ts.n.kh). Modern Hebrew uses the word in a figurative sense as well, for example:
 
 שַׁעַר הַדּוֹלָר צָנַח אֶתְמוֹל
the dollar exchange rate (literally, gate) plummeted yesterday
חטיבת הצנחניםAccommodating the need for authentic Hebrew terms for modern inventions, those reviving the Hebrew language took the root צ.נ.ח and created the word מַצְנֵחַ (mahts-NEH-ahkh) meaning parachute.
 
Likewise, a parachute jump is a מִצְנָח (meets-NAHKH), a parachutist or paratrooper is a צַנְחָן (tsahn-KHAHN), and the brigade of paratroopers is:
 
חֲטִיבַת הַצַּנְחָנִים
