Israelis sometimes say אונליין[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/מקוון-#.m4a” /] to mean online, but more and more people are using the term מקוון[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/מקוון-#.m4a” /] for something that appears or happens over the internet (מקוון for something masculine, and מקוונת[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/מקוון-#.m4a” /] for something feminine).

For example:

The word מקוון follows the פועל structure. Its root is ק.ו.נ[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/מקוון-#.m4a” /], but it seems to me that this root is derived from the ancient/modern word קו[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/מקוון-#.m4a” /] meaning line.
