תיבת דוארThe Hebrew term for mailbox is תֵּבַת דֹּאַר – literally, a box of mail.

דואר comes from the Aramaic word for messages passed around by couriers, those people who would run frantically from place to place.

תיבת is the construct (connected to another word in an “of” relationship) of the word תֵּבָה (teh-VAH), referring to boxes that store or house things, such as a mailboxNoah’s ark or the basket/box housing baby Moses and floating him along the Nile:

תֵּבָה/תיבה

In later (than Biblical) Hebrew, תיבה came to also mean word.
