We have the (object) borrower
who takes something on loan
for a fixed period
or a (monetary) borrower – someone who takes money
with the intention of returning it
But what about the person standing on the other side of the action?
the one giving the thing, or the one giving the money?
So these people are called
the (object) lender and the (money) lender
שואל-an (object) borrower – the one who borrows money (correction – a thing)
This word is of the Paal verb form
So is לווה-money borrower – “I borrowed money”
like קניתי בית (I bought a house)
These are verbs in the Paal form
But “to lend” (an object)
and the person who does this is the lender (m)
or the lender (f)
And to lend (money)
the lender (m) or the lender (f)
these are in the Hifil verb form
And the Hifil form is a form that speaks about causation
I cause someone to do something
For example, when I dictate
I cause someone to write
להשאיל and להלוות aren’t exactly about causality
They’re more about enabling someone
to borrow something or to borrow money
