Hey dear friends
The word נבחרת as in “basketball
team”, “soccer team”, is actually
a feminine form of נבחר (chosen), meaning
that נבחרת is “the chosen team”
קבוצה-group is in the feminine
and נבחר and נבחרת are words
in the נפעל form – נפעל (sounds like) נבחר
And this is the opposite, so to speak, of “to choose”
“He chose the team”, “the team
was chosen in the past”, and “today it’s being chosen”
Why do I say “so to speak”? Because
the נפעל form isn’t exactly the opposite
of פעל, for example “to fight” isn’t
a passive action, and “to enter” also
isn’t a passive action
