Regular in the sense of everyday, in Hebrew, is רגיל[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/באופן-קבוע-#.m4a” /]. This word comes from רגל[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/באופן-קבוע-#.m4a” /] – foot, something that moves at a regular pace (despite their similarity, the English regular most likely did not derive from רגיל, nor vice-versa). 

רגיל also means used to, as in:

[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/באופן-קבוע-#.m4a” /]היא רגילה לקום כל בוקר בשעה שבע.

She is used to getting up every morning at seven o’clock.

But doing something regularly or on a regular basis, in Hebrew, is באופן קבוע[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/באופן-קבוע-#.m4a” /] – literally, in a set fashion.

For example:

[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/באופן-קבוע-#.m4a” /]מי שמגיע באופן קבוע לשיעורים יקבל החזר מהמדינה.

Whoever comes on a regular basis to class (to the lessons) will receive a reimbursement from the state.

Sometimes people use באופן רגיל[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/באופן-קבוע-#.m4a” /] instead of באופן קבוע.
