If you want to say under or underneath in Hebrew, you can use either תחת[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/תחת-#.m4a” /] or מתחת ל[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/תחת-#.m4a” /].
For example:
[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/תחת-#.m4a” /]הפירות המיובשים נמצאים על המדף, תחת קופסאות השימורים.
or

The dried fruits are on the shelf, underneath the canned goods.
Literally, תחת – means under, while מתחת ל – means from under to.
Just be careful with the word תחת – it’s also a slang term for someone’s bottom.
In Biblical Hebrew, תחת also means in place of, as in:

An eye for (in place of) an eye.
