P.S. from yesterday’s dose

As a post-script to yesterday’s entry on worshiping, the Aramaic root ס.ג.ד (s.g.d) meaning to bow down appears in other Semitic languages as well, most notably in Arabic word for Mosque – مسجد (MAHS-jid) – and in the Amharic name for the Festival of Worship observed for generations among Jews in Ethiopia and now today in Jerusalem, Sigd – ሰግድ.

Thanks for the tip, Avraham.

Now for today’s dose…

Today at noon, Israel time, I’ll be hosting my weekly show, Israeli Music – Decoded. One of the songs I’ll be introducing and playing on my show is the hit song by Avraham Tal, אוֹרוֹת (oh-ROHT) – Lights.

The chorus begins with אוֹרוֹת מְהַבְהֵבִים (oh-ROHT meh-hahv-heh-VEEM) – flashing lights

לְהַבְהֵב (leh-hahv-HEV) means to flash. It’s an onomatopoeia and a verb of the active-intensive variety.

You’re welcome to listen to the show – just go to RustyMike.com at noon Israel time and click the “Listen Live” button. I hope to have you in the audience!
