יסודי is an adjective form of the word יְסוֹד (yeh-SOHD), meaning foundation. A thorough cleaning is one that purges the foundations of the dirt.
Another example of the word יסודי in context is, עֲשִׂיתֶם עֲבוֹדָה יְסוֹדִית (ah-see-TEM ah-voh-DAH yeh-soh-DEET) – you (plural) did a thorough job.
Elementary school – the place where children gain the foundations of their education – is called בֵּית סֵפֶר יְסוֹדִי (BEH-eet SEH-fehr yeh-soh-DEE).
