Hello dear friends the
word “temple” refers to any temple
for example in Thailand, or in the Philippines a
temple to a particular god or something like that
but when we talk about Western religions
Christianity, Judaism and Islam
then there are special names
for the prayer houses
of each of these religions
In Judaism there is a synagogue
and we use the word בית כנסת
the term בית כנסת
already several thousand years
after the destruction of the Second Temple
And בית כנסת indicates a place, a house where
people gather
for all kinds of needs – mainly to pray
Now, כנסייה-church is the temple
or prayer house of the Christians
and it was probably translated from
ecclesia (ἐκκλησία)
which is also about gathering
in one place
And מסגד-mosque comes from the word לסגוד
לסגוד is to worship / to bow
And the word לסגוד appears in both Hebrew and
in Arabic, because the mosque is called
Masjid in Arabic ( مسجد)
and in Amharic there’s a holiday, Sigd (ሰግድ)
where on this holiday people bow
in the direction of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount
