is a verb in the נפעל verb form
like נכנס-enters – he “enters”, it “is added”
Though it doesn’t sound like נכנס
It isn’t “neesaf”, it’s “nosaf”
Why? Because the root of נוסף is
י.ס.פ, like the root of the name Yosef (Joseph)
and the letter Yod often switches
with the letter Vav, the sound ee
switches with the sounds oo or oh
And it’s not just in Hebrew that this occurs
It occurs in Yiddish as well
Say, there’s “kugel” and there’s “kigel”
and in tons of other languages
