Hey dear friends
in Hebrew there are patterns of words
structures, if you will
that us to help us understand the meaning of the words
For example, we have, in verbs, forms
We have פעל, פיעל , הפעיל etc.
that when we see a root in a particular form
we HEAR a root in a particular form
then right away we have some meaning that comes into our head
if we speak the language, automatically
Same goes not only for verbs
but also for nouns
there are different “weights”, for example the
word מכרה-mine takes the root
כ.ר.ה, puts it into the “weight”
mif’el or “mik’tel”
and so we have the idea
of digging a pit , that goes into
the word “mine”, and we have an idea
what מכרה means, even if we have not heard the word before
Other words in this “weight” include
מקנה-livestock, which is a biblical word
that we don’t use so much today
but it takes root ק.נ.ה
which is to buy something
and מקנה is something I bought and acquired for myself
Likewise מבנה-structure takes the root ב.נ.ה
and turns it into the word “structure”
something that is built
Another word from the same “weight” of a root
whose last letter is ה
is מפנה-turning point – we take the root פ.נ.ה
turn, and put it
into the “weight” mif’el or mik’tel
and out comes the word מפנה-turning point
For example “I made a big turn(ing point) in (my) life”
