including the Gate of Mercy (Golden Gate)
The open gates are
Zion Gate
Jaffa Gate
New Gate
Shechem Gate (Damascus Gate)
Flowers Gate (Herod’s Gate)
Lions Gate
and Dung Gate

Why is this gate called Dung (garbage) Gate?
First of all, because it appears in the Bible
as the Dung Gate
in the book of Nehemiah
and it is not clear exactly why it is called Garbage Gate
but it is probably because they would take out
the garbage of the old city
or of the Temple maybe
through this gate, to throw it in
