it’s also a city disputed
on another level (very much so)
but today it belongs to the State of Israel
beforehand it was under British rule
and before that under Turkish (Ottoman) rule
and before that under Byzantine rule and Mamluke
and Byzantine and Roman
and Jewish, and before that Greek
and before that Jewish and Israelite
but before the Jews came
the city was called Jebus
after the Canaanite tribe
who were the inhabitants of this city
it was called Jebus, and the people were called Jebusites
and King David came and
conquered the city
called Jerusalem
and so it is called to this day
