how to say “frosting” in Hebrew

Next week, Jews around the world will be observing the Feast of Weeksחַג הַשָּׁבֻעוֹת[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/קצפת-2.mp3″ /]. This holiday has a tradition of eating dairy products, some of which are covered in that sugary substance called frosting.

The Hebrew word for frosting or whipped cream is קָצֶפֶת.[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/קצפת-1.mp3″ /]

For example:

[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/קצפת-3.mp3″ /]דָּנִי אוֹכֵל אֶת הַקָּצֶפֶת וּמַשְׁאִיר אֶת הָעוּגָה.

Danny eats the frosting and leaves the cake.

קצפת derives from the word for foamקֶצֶף[audioclip url=”https://archive.ulpan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/קצפת-4.mp3″ /]. And קצף also means extreme anger, especially in Biblical Hebrew.

What does whipped cream have to do with violent fury? I’ve never seen it, but I’ve read that when some people get very angry, their mouths foam. Maybe דני does this when someone takes away his קצפת.
