בשמים ראיתי קשת,
היא עמדה ממש מול הרחוב
ורציתי אליה לגשת
ולראות אותה מקרוב.

והתחלתי ללכת, ללכת,
ועליתי על ראש גבעה.
אך ככל שהרחקתי לכת
הקשת לא קרבה.

היא עמדה במרום רקיע
כמצויירת על עננה,
וידעתי שלא אגיע
ושלחתי אליה יונה.

עופי, עופי, יפת כנפיים!
עופי, עופי אל המרום,
אל הקשת אשר בשמים
ומסרי לה ברכת שלום.

בשמים יונה וקשת,
בשמים הדרך פתוחה
וטיפות ראשונות של גשם
מבשרות שנת שלום וברכה.

עופי, עופי, יפת כנפיים…

In the sky I saw a rainbow,
It stood right across the street
And I wanted to go up to it
And see it up close.

And I started walking, walking,
And I climbed to the hilltop.
But as far as I went
The rainbow got no closer.

It stood in the heavens above
As if painted on a cloud,
And I knew I wouldn’t reach it
And I sent it a dove.

Fly, fly, of beautiful wings!
Fly fly high above,
To the rainbow in the sky
And send my blessing of peace.

In the sky a dove and a rainbow,
In the sky the way is wide open
And first drops of rain
Announce a year of peace and blessing.
