how to say “to get things done” in Hebrew

לְהַסְפִּיק
Hear this word pronounced

We’ve had סַפָּק (sah-PAHK) – supplier/provider. We’ve had סִפּוּק (see-POOK) – satisfaction. We’ve had לְהִסְתַּפֵּק (leh-hees-tah-PEK) – to make do with what is

Today we’ve got one word more from this versatile Hebrew root: לְהַסְפִּיק (leh-hahs-PEEK). The two most common meanings are to suffice and to get succeed in doing something on time.

You may be familiar with the best-known usage of this הפעיל verb: מַסְפִּיק (mahs-PEEK) – enough. But the verb can be used in a variety of contexts.

For example, אֲנִי מְקַוֶּה שֶׁאֲנִי אַסְפִּיק לִגְמוֹר אֶת כָּל הַמְּשִׂימוֹת לִפְנֵי שַׁבָּת (ah-NEE meh-kah-VEH sheh-ah-NEE ahs-PEEK leeg-MOHR et kohl hah-meh-see-MOHT leef-NEH-ee shah-BAHT) – I hope I’ll manage to complete all the tasks before the Sabbath.

In my case, I hope להספיק it all before I head out to Tel Aviv tonight to visit סַבְתָּא (SAHV-tah) – Grandma.
