how to say “wasted” in Hebrew

While some refrain from excessive celebration on פּוּרִים (poo-REEM), others… just go for it.

Once they’ve done so, many of them find themselves passed out on the couch. 


One might point to him and say, הוּא גָּמוּר לְגַמְרֵי (hoo gah-MOOR leh-GAHM-reh – slang pronunciation) – he’s totally gone (i.e., he is passed out). For a female, it’s גְּמוּרָה (geh-moo-RAH). Literally, these words mean done or finished.


Or, one might point to her and say הִיא מַסְטוּלָה (hee mahs-TOO-lah) – she’s out of it. For a male, it’s מַסְטוּל (mahs-TOOL). This word is borrowed from Arabic and means intoxicated or bewildered.
