בִּשּׁוּל

When the Children of Israel left Egypt thousands of years ago, they didn’t have time to bake bread or cook anything, for that matter. Today’s Children of Israel, however, clean and cook to make the festival clean from physical and spiritual clutter… and joyous.

Class starts right after Passover in six locations throughout Israel

The Hebrew word for cooking is בִּשּׁוּל (bee-SHOOL). This is the abstract-noun form of the active-intensive פיעל verb, לְבַשֵּׁל (leh-vah-SHEL).

When Israelis describe their cooking of various items, they often use the plural  form of בישול. They’ll say, for example, I’ll rest when I’m done with the cooking – אָנוּחַ כְּשֶׁאֶגְמוֹר עִם הַבִּשּׁוּלִים (ah-NOO-ahkh keh-sheh-eg-MOHR eem hah-bee-shoo-LEEM).

Shabbat Shalom, Happy Passover, and a wonderful spring to all! (well, except those in the Southern Hemisphere)
שבת שלום, חַג פֶּסַח שָׂמֵחַ, וְאָבִיב נִפְלָא לְכוּלָם!
